Boilermakers Win Big On Opening Night

By Don Collins

BRADLEY, Illinois -- The Bradley-Bourbonnais High School varsity girls basketball team won against Crete-Monee on Tuesday (Nov. 13) in their season debut by a final score of 75-40. The Boilermakers record now sits at 1-0 on the season.

Despite a slow start to the game that saw the two teams tied at 16 after one quarter, BBCHS turned up the defensive intensity by recording 11 of their 13 steals in the remaining three quarters. The Boilers allowed only 24 points for the rest of the game.

The Boilers were led offensively by Junior Evey Evans and made five three-pointers in nine attempts. Evans scored 26 points with 24 of them coming in the first three quarters of the game. Her teammates were able to consistently find her open from deep on the Crete defense and she converted time and time again. She finished the game converting 60% of her field goals into made baskets.

The Boilermakers used a steady dose of three pointers to grow their lead. Almost half (49.2%) of the shot attempts were three pointers and the girls looked comfortable taking and making from distance. This fits in line with head coach Evan Tingley’s observations of the team, but also provided room for improvement.

“I think we know what we’re good at,” Tingley said. “We can shoot it, we’re a good three point shooting team, but we need to to explore other options first. I thought in the first quarter we really settled and then we started working the ball a little more. [When] we started going inside-out, those threes go a little more often.”

  • Zoie Langlois had an all-around night as she posted 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the game.
  • Junior Evey Evans had a team high 26 points.
  • Sophomore Faith Davis and Zoie Langlois were tied for second with 13 points apiece
  • Evans and Langlois both grabbed a team-high six total rebounds in the contest.

  • BBCHS will head to Beecher to compete in the Beecher Fall Classic tournament. First match is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. against Clifton Central.
