Native American Indian Heritage Month 2021
-
November 1 marks the first day of National Native American Indian Heritage Month. Within our student population, less than 1% of our students identify as Native American Indian or Alaska Native. However, through our equity work it has become increasingly important to educate our students with different and unique perspectives. We are sharing a handful of resources that are helpful in understanding this month and what it means to this community. We encourage you to take the time to read over these as well as do your own research as a way to educate yourself with the history of these individuals and their culture.
Graphic Text:On August 3, 1990, U.S. President George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as "National American Indian Heritage Month," now more commonly known as Native American Heritage Month. Also commonly known as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, this month is a time to acknowledge our Native community's important contributions, and to celebrate and honor their diverse cultures, traditions, and histories.

Earlier this month, we mentioned that November is National Native American Heritage Month. As we have done in our previous celebrations, today we are providing you a list of Netflix suggestions centered around the history of this population of people and their culture. We believe movies and tv shows are a wonderful way to get insight and gain a different perspective. Take some time this week to dive deeper into learning about the importance of this month!
