Our attendance policies are designed to promote academic achievement and student responsibility, in addition to providing for the safety and protection of each individual. We believe regular attendance is the best avenue toward a well-rounded development in becoming accomplished 21st century learners. We also believe that attendance aids students in portraying our Portrait of a Graduate which includes: character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. The school expects that a student will be in school every day and that planning ahead and keeping school attendance as a high priority can minimize most absences.

New Procedures for 2020-2021

  • Expect Quarantine Absences
BBCHS must follow the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Guidance to ensure we are keeping our students and staff safe. This guidance changes frequently and continues to better define who must quarantine or isolate if they experience COVID-like symptoms , are diagnosed with COVID-19 or come into close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) with someone who has. It is probable that individuals and classes will be required to quarantine during this school year.

What is considered an absence during remote or hybrid learning?
Fortunately, the District has developed a flexible learning model that will account for extended absences in response to the health department's dynamic quarantine directives. It is the expectation that students attend live sessions with their teachers each day and are expected to be on time and stay for the entire session. If a student cannot attend live sessions their absences should be reported to the school at (815) 937-3707 and will still remain responsible for missed work.

    Absence Due to COVID-19
It is imperative that parents immediately contact our Nursing Department if their student is diagnosed with COVID-19 by calling (815) 937-3707 ext. 6019 or by emailing ahagenow@bbchs.org.

    Reporting an Absence
Parents may report an absence by calling (815) 937-3707 and speaking to our attendance clerk.

For more information and details regarding attendance, please review our Student Handbook.
